Valuation

What is your Rolex worth?

Two Rolexes of the same model can sit far apart. These are the six things a valuation comes down to, in order of weight.

  • The reference number

The number between the lugs decides which version you have. A Submariner 116610LN and a 126610LN look alike but have a different movement and a market of their own. This is the first question in every valuation.

    Impact on the value: Large

  • Year and series

The serial number gives away the year of production. Within a reference, early and late series can differ in dial, bezel or crown, and that counts.

    Impact on the value: Large

  • State of case and dial

Crisp case surfaces and unpolished lugs are worth more than a case that has often been worked on. On the dial we look at discolouration, stains and whether all the hour markers are still there.

    Impact on the value: Large

  • Box and papers

A complete set with box, warranty card and tags counts. We buy without them too, and you do not need to work anything out in advance.

    Impact on the value: Average

  • Service history

Receipts from a brand service or an approved watchmaker show that the movement has been maintained. Do say too whether any parts were replaced.

    Impact on the value: Average

  • Rarity and demand

Some versions were made only briefly, or are simply much in demand. That differs by model and by period, and it moves with the market.

    Impact on the value: Average

We deliberately name no figures and no guide prices on this page. A number on a web page says nothing about your watch, and a guide price given without having seen it is a promise we cannot keep. You receive an offer on your own watch within 24 hours.

How to sell your Rolex to Reuven Watches

From request to handover in three steps. You decide only once you have seen the offer.

  1. The Reuven Watches request form on a phone, the first step to selling your watch

    Send your details and photos

Fill in the form with the brand, the model and the reference, and add a few clear photos. If you do not know the reference, we look it up.

  2. A valuer assessing a Rolex Submariner wearing gloves and using tools for a no-obligation offer

    We assess your Rolex

Beni Reuben looks at the reference, the year and the condition. Within 24 hours you will hear what we offer, every day of the week.

  3. Four luxury watches from Rolex, Omega, Cartier and Audemars Piguet on dark leather, brands Reuven Watches values and buys

Agreed? Then we take care of it

If you agree, you come by in Utrecht or send the watch insured at our expense. If you turn the offer down, you keep your Rolex.

Preparation

What helps when valuing your Rolex?

The more complete the picture, the more precisely we can assess your Rolex. If something from the second column is missing, send your request without it.

  • Photo of the dial

    Status: Helpful

Straight from above, in daylight and without flash, so the hour markers and the text are legible.

  • A photo of the case and the bezel

    Status: Helpful

From the side and from above. Those show whether the case has been polished and how the bezel sits.

  • A photo of the back and the clasp

    Status: Helpful

The clasp shows the bracelet type and often the year of production.

  • The reference number

    Status: Helpful

Found between the lugs, on the twelve o'clock side, under the bracelet. If you do not know it, we look it up.

  • Box and papers

    Status: Optional

The original box, the warranty card and any tags. We buy your Rolex without them too.

  • Service receipts and extra links

    Status: Optional

Service receipts and the links removed when the bracelet was sized.

There is no fixed list: send what you can manage. We go through the rest once we are in touch. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.

Two Rolexes that look identical can differ in the details. That is where the difference in value sits.

Expertise

What do we look at first on a Rolex?

Four things that most decide what a Rolex fetches, and that you can check yourself before offering it.

  • The reference before anything

Two watches that look identical can carry very different numbers. At Rolex the reference sits between the lugs, under the bracelet on the twelve o'clock side. A Submariner 116610LN and a 126610LN look alike, but have a different movement, a different case size and a market of their own.

  • Crisp surfaces and polishing

A case that has often been polished loses its crisp transitions between the side and the top of the lugs. That is irreversible. We hold a watch up to the light and look at the line of the lug: it should be straight and crisp, not round and soft.

  • The dial tells the history

Discolouration, marks behind the crystal and missing luminous material say something about how the watch has been kept. Sometimes that works in your favour: on older models evenly aged hour markers are sought after. Replaced dials are not.

  • Bracelet, clasp and links

The clasp often carries a code that gives away the year of production. A stretched bracelet with a lot of play between the links depresses the value, while loose links you still have lying about count in your favour. So put them with it.

If you are unsure about any of these points, simply show us. We buy every Rolex, including one that has been polished or whose papers have gone missing.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about selling a Rolex

Do you also buy a Rolex without box and papers?

Yes. We buy every Rolex, with or without box and papers, and with clear signs of wear too. If you do still have the box, the warranty card, service receipts or extra links, do mention it with your request. It counts in what we can offer.

Where do I find the reference number on my Rolex?

Between the lugs on the twelve o'clock side, under the bracelet. You have to push the bracelet aside or take it off for it. If that is not possible, send a photo of the watch; we will look the reference up for you.

How soon do I get an offer on my Rolex?

Within 24 hours of your request, every day of the week. Weekends included. You are not tied to the offer; you decide only once you have seen it.

Does it matter whether my Rolex has been polished?

It counts. Polishing takes material away and rounds the crisp transitions at the lugs, and that cannot be undone. An unpolished case is therefore worth more. We simply buy a polished watch; it just weighs differently in the assessment.

How do I send my Rolex to you safely?

Insured, and the shipping is at our expense. You have nothing to arrange and nothing to pay. Would you rather not post it? Then come by our showroom in Utrecht and we will go through your Rolex together.

What is my Rolex worth?

We can only say that once we have seen your watch. For buying watches we deliberately name no figures and no guide prices: two Rolexes of the same model can sit far apart. What does count is set out above under What is your Rolex worth. Send us your details and you will receive a concrete offer within 24 hours.

Do you also buy older or damaged Rolexes?

Yes. There is no minimum value and we turn nothing down in advance. A watch that does not run, that has had parts replaced or that is damaged is perfectly welcome.

By model

Which Rolex model do you want to sell?

We buy every Rolex, from Submariner to Cellini. For each model we look at the reference, the year, the condition and what comes with it. The number between the lugs is the only thing we really need; the rest we read from your photos.

Sell your Rolex Submariner Date

The Submariner Date is the model we receive most, with or without a date and with an aluminium or a ceramic bezel. The model page lists every reference with its years, the nicknames and what you can look at yourself.

All about selling a Submariner

Sell your Rolex Daytona

On the Daytona the movement generation decides most of the story: hand-wound, the bought-in automatic or Rolex's own. The model page sets the three generations side by side with the references alongside.

All about selling a Daytona

Sell your Rolex GMT-Master II

Pepsi, Batman, Batgirl, Sprite or Root Beer: on this model the nickname says more than the number, and the bracelet separates two references with the same colourway. The model page lists them all.

All about selling a GMT-Master II

Sell your Rolex Datejust

The Datejust runs from 28 to 41 millimetres and appeared in steel, Rolesor and solid gold, with three kinds of bezel. The model page sets out for each size what counts and where the stone setting makes the difference.

All about selling a Datejust

Sell your Rolex Day-Date

The Day-Date appears only in precious metal, with the day spelled out above twelve. The model page sets out what the material, the dial and the language of the day wheel do to the value.

All about selling a Day-Date

Sell your Rolex Explorer

The Explorer has a smooth bezel, no date and three numerals on the dial, in 36, 39 or 40 millimetres. We buy every generation, from the 1016 to the 124270, and the Explorer II with its 24-hour bezel as well. All about selling an Explorer.

Sell your Rolex Sea-Dweller

The Sea-Dweller is recognisable by the valve at nine o'clock and by a case clearly thicker than a Submariner's. We buy every reference, from the 1665 with red lettering to the 126600 and the Deepsea. All about selling a Sea-Dweller.

Sell your Rolex Yacht-Master

On the Yacht-Master the value sits in the bezel: steel with platinum, yellow gold, Everose or ceramic, with raised numerals on a matt ground. We buy the 40, the 42, the 37 and the Yacht-Master II. All about selling a Yacht-Master.

Sell your Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Air-King or Sky-Dweller

The Oyster Perpetual is the simplest Oyster in the range and for exactly that reason sought after in the striking dial colours. If you want to sell an Oyster Perpetual, an Air-King or a Sky-Dweller, the dial, the case size and the state of the case and bracelet make the difference.

Sell your older or unusual Rolex

We buy outside the well-known sports models too. A Yacht-Master, a Milgauss, a Cellini or an older reference from the seventies and eighties is welcome here, with or without box and papers. If you do not know the reference, send a photo of the dial and of the case between the bracelet links.
