Rolex Datejust 41
The largest size of the line. With a smooth steel or a fluted white gold bezel, on Oyster or Jubilee.
You can sell your Rolex Datejust to Reuven Watches in Utrecht. Every size from 28 to 41 millimetres, in steel or gold, with or without box and papers. Tell us the case size and you will hear what we offer within 24 hours.
You are not committed to anything. Your details stay confidential.
With the Datejust the case size and the material together decide most of the answer, more than the year. After that the dial counts, and whether any stone setting came from the factory or was added later. A gold Datejust 36 with diamond hour markers sits in a completely different market from a steel 41 with a smooth bezel. Because there are so many versions we assess each watch individually, and within 24 hours you will hear the outcome.
No Rolex has been made in as many versions as the Datejust. Five case sizes, three kinds of bezel, two main bracelets and dozens of dials, in steel, in steel with gold and in solid gold. That makes the question of what a Datejust is worth virtually unanswerable without further detail.
How wide is the case, which material is it, and does it have a smooth or a fluted bezel? Those three answers usually put us in the right area. If there is stone setting, the follow-up question is whether Rolex applied it itself.
We buy every Datejust, with or without box and papers and also when the watch has sat in a drawer for decades. There is no minimum value. What you do not know you do not have to work out; we will ask for whatever we need.
With the Datejust the distinction lies not in nicknames but in size, material and bezel. These are the six combinations we are offered most, with the reference range alongside.
The largest size of the line. With a smooth steel or a fluted white gold bezel, on Oyster or Jubilee.
The classic size the model is known for. Wears neutrally and appeared with most of the dials.
The middle size, often with mother-of-pearl or stone setting. Worn by women and men alike.
The smallest size of the line and the only one officially called Lady-Datejust. Before this it was 26 millimetres.
In yellow gold, white gold or Everose. Not to be confused with the Day-Date, which has the day spelled out above twelve.
Smaller crown, an acrylic crystal on the earliest runs and, on some, still no quickset date.
The Datejust was made in hundreds of combinations. If yours is not listed, we buy it just the same; measure the case and send a photo of the dial.
The reference number sits between the lugs on the twelve o'clock side, under the bracelet. On the Datejust the first digits give the case size and the last digit the material of case and bezel.
| Reference | Version | Period | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1601 and 1603 | Datejust 36, vintage | circa 1959 to 1977 | smaller crown, no quickset date |
| 16014 and 16220 | Datejust 36 | circa 1977 to 2005 | white gold or steel bezel, sapphire crystal |
| 116234 | Datejust 36 in steel | circa 2005 to 2018 | fluted white gold bezel |
| 126234 and 126233 | Datejust 36 | from 2018 | newer movement, longer power reserve |
| 116300 and 116334 | Datejust II, 41 mm | circa 2009 to 2016 | the first 41 mm, a thicker case than the later Datejust 41 |
| 126300 and 126334 | Datejust 41 | from circa 2016 | smooth or fluted bezel, Oyster or Jubilee |
| 178240 and 278274 | Datejust 31 | circa 2007 and later | middle size, often with mother-of-pearl or stone setting |
| 279160 and 279174 | Lady-Datejust 28 | from 2015 | the smallest size, successor to the 26 mm |
Your reference not listed? The Datejust has existed since 1945 and there are hundreds of versions. We buy them all, including the early ones.
The figures below apply to the modern generations. On the vintage references the crown, the crystal and the date setting differ; that is noted per row.
These figures are here to help you place your own watch. For an offer we assess the individual watch, because on this model the same size varies widely by dial and material.
With the Datejust the difference is in details you can see yourself with a good lamp. Go through these four points and you will know roughly where you stand.
A fluted bezel has sharp, even ridges that run right to the edge. On a ring that has been polished too often the peaks go round and the sharp division between the facets disappears. Turn the watch slowly under a lamp and watch whether the pattern of light stays regular.
Look with a loupe at the rim around each stone. Factory setting is tight and even, with every stone at the same height. Work added later often leaves marks on the dial or the bezel, or follows a pattern that differs from what Rolex supplied for that reference.
Hold the watch up by the clasp and see how far the links sag apart. A Jubilee has five rows of fine links and shows wear sooner than an Oyster. Links taken out at some point still count, so check whether they are in the box.
Unscrew the crown and set it to the middle position. On the modern generations the date then jumps one day per click. If it does not and you have to run the hands round, you have one of the older references, and that is worth knowing for the valuation.
If you cannot work it out, that is no problem. Send photos of what you can manage; we will ask for whatever else we need.
Have your Datejust assessedNo other Rolex has appeared in so many variants. These are the six points that make the difference within that, in the order we look at them.
Steel, Rolesor or solid gold, in one of the five case sizes. Those two together decide most of the answer, more than the year or the dial.
Impact on the value: Large
From a plain black one to mother-of-pearl, hardstone or a version with diamond hour markers. On this model the dial is the part with the most variants and the widest spread.
Impact on the value: Large
Stones Rolex set itself belong to the reference and count. Setting added later does the opposite, even when the work is neat. This is where most value disappears on a Datejust.
Impact on the value: Large
Smooth, fluted or set. On a fluted bezel we check whether the ridges are still sharp, because ridges polished round cannot be restored.
Impact on the value: Average
Jubilee or Oyster, and whether it is still the original. On the smaller sizes, missing links matter more often than people think, so dig them out.
Impact on the value: Average
The warranty card makes year and version traceable and helps settle whether the stone setting came from the factory.
Impact on the value: Average
You will not find guide prices here. With the Datejust, two examples of the same size sit far apart as soon as material or dial differs.
Request a valuation
On a Datejust, where the stones came from matters more than the year.
The three sizes we see most, side by side. Measure your case without the crown from nine to three and you will know which column applies to you.
| Datejust 36 | Datejust 41 | Datejust 31 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Case width | 36 mm | 41 mm | 31 mm |
| Who wears it | Both women and men | Mainly men | Mainly women, and men with a slim wrist |
| Most chosen bracelet | Jubilee | Oyster and Jubilee roughly equal | Jubilee |
| Choice of dial | The broadest of the three | Broad, with many plain colours | Plenty of mother-of-pearl and stone setting |
| Factory stone setting | Occurs | Less common | Very common |
| How often we see it | The most common of the three | Regularly | Regularly |
Each size draws its own buyers, and that balance shifts over the years. That is why we ask about it first and assess them separately.
Four things worth knowing before you decide to sell. No predictions, just what we see come through the door.
No other model exists in such numbers, and that makes the market broad and steady. There is always demand, but there is always supply too. What makes the difference is not the photo but the combination of size, material and dial, and whether you can name those three clearly.
For a while everyone wanted large, and the 36 was seen as small. That has turned around: the classic size wears neutrally and is worn by women and men alike. So anyone with a 36 need not think they have an outdated size on their hands.
On no other Rolex model is stone setting added after the fact as often as here. To the owner it feels like an embellishment; in the market it works the other way. If you do not know whether the stones came from the factory, just have it assessed; we always say what we see and why.
The references from the sixties and seventies, with their smaller crown and sometimes still an acrylic crystal, are sought by buyers who want exactly that era. A discoloured dial there is a feature, not a fault. So do not polish such a watch up before you offer it.
Want to know where your example sits in this picture? Put it to us. You are not tied to the offer and you decide only once you have seen it.

A selection of three of the 50 Google reviews, quoted word for word.
We buy every Rolex Datejust, from a 28 millimetre Lady-Datejust to a Datejust 41 in solid gold. For each version we look at the case size, the material, the bezel and the dial. Measure the case from nine to three without the crown and we have the size and can go on.
The 41 millimetre is the largest size of the line and appeared with a smooth steel bezel as well as a fluted white gold one, on Oyster and on Jubilee. If you want to sell a Rolex Datejust 41, say which bezel and which bracelet, because those two together decide which reference it is.
The 36 millimetre is the classic size the model is known for and wears neutrally enough for women and men alike. When selling a Rolex Datejust 36 we look at the material and the dial, because in this size the choice of dials is the widest in the whole line.
The 31 millimetre is the middle size and often appeared with mother-of-pearl or stone setting. When selling a Rolex Datejust 31 the first question is whether any stones came from the factory. Send a sharp photo of the dial and we will assess the setting with a loupe.
The Lady-Datejust is the smallest version, now 28 millimetres and before that 26. Only that size officially carries the name Lady-Datejust; the 31 is simply called Datejust. When selling a Lady-Datejust we look at the state of the fine link bracelet, because that is the part that suffers most.
The Datejust appeared in steel with yellow gold or Everose and in solid gold. When selling a gold Rolex Datejust, the material and the weight weigh heavily, together with whether case, bracelet and clasp belong together. Do not confuse it with the Day-Date; that has the day spelled out above twelve.
Diamond hour markers and stone-set bezels are common on this model, both from the factory and added later. That distinction is the most important thing we establish: factory setting belongs to the reference and counts; work added later pushes the value down, even when it is neatly done.
The references from the sixties, seventies and eighties have a smaller crown and, on the earliest runs, an acrylic crystal. Some of them do not yet have a quickset date. On vintage we look especially at the dial, because discolouration there is often a feature rather than a fault.
If you only want to know what your Datejust is worth, that is fine too. A request commits you to nothing and you decide only once you have seen the offer. Tell us the case size and send a photo of the dial and the bracelet, and you will hear from us within 24 hours.
That depends above all on the case size and the material, and after that on the dial. A gold 36 with diamond hour markers sits in a different market from a steel 41 with a smooth bezel.
We do not give guide prices on this page, because on this model the spread is too wide to catch in one figure. Tell us the size and send photos, and you will hear what we offer within 24 hours.
That depends on where they came from. Setting Rolex applied itself belongs to the reference and simply counts.
If the stones were added later by someone else, it works the other way, even when the work is neat. We look at the setting with a loupe and always say what we see.
Only the size. The Lady-Datejust is the smallest version of the same line, now 28 millimetres and before that 26.
The 31 millimetre is simply called Datejust, even though it is often worn as a ladies size. So measure rather than guess: without the crown, from nine to three.
Besides the date, the Day-Date has the day spelled out above twelve, and it was only made in precious metal.
If there is only a date at three o'clock, you have a Datejust, even if the watch is gold. If in doubt, send a photo of the dial.
Yes, including the versions without a quickset date and with the older dials.
On those we look especially at the dial and at whether bracelet and case belong together. On vintage, discolouration is often a feature rather than a fault, so do not polish anything up.
It counts, but it is no reason for us not to buy.
Check whether they are still in the box or in a drawer. If you have them, send them along, even loose. On the smaller sizes missing links matter more than people think.
Yes. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.
On this model papers do help settle whether the stone setting came from the factory, so if you still have them they are worth digging out.
Within a day of your request, seven days a week.
You decide, in your own time. If you say no, nothing changes.

The Datejust comes through in more versions than any other model, and Beni Reuben places them all himself. He starts with the size and the material, and immediately after that reaches for the loupe to look at the stone setting, because on this model that is where the biggest difference lies between two seemingly identical watches.
