What sets the value of your Breitling?
At Breitling the difference lies in the movement and in the bracelet. A chronograph with an in-house Breitling movement sits differently in the market from the same case with a bought-in one, and at this brand an original bracelet is a substantial part of the whole. These are the six points that weigh heaviest.
-
An in-house or a bought-in movement
In 2009 Breitling launched its own chronograph movement, the calibre B01. Before that, movements were bought in from others. Both are good movements, but the market draws a distinction and that is the first question we ask.
Impact on the value: Large
-
The original bracelet
Breitling gives its bracelets names of their own: Rouleaux, Pilot, Navitimer, Ocean Classic. They are heavy, they are expensive and they are hard to source separately. So a watch on a generic strap is missing a real part of the whole.
Impact on the value: Large
-
The slide rule of the Navitimer
On the Navitimer the rotating outer ring with the scale is a functional part. If it turns stiffly, if the printing is worn or if the scale is hard to read, that counts. Turn it gently through a full circle and see whether it runs evenly.
Impact on the value: Average
-
Material and case size
Breitling supplies in steel, gold, steel and gold and titanium, and on the men's models the cases run from about 40 to 46 millimetres. The large sizes and the smaller sizes each draw their own buyers, and that can shift from period to period.
Impact on the value: Average
-
Chronometer certificate and papers
Breitling has its mechanical movements certified as chronometers. That document belongs with the watch and makes the year and the version traceable. Without papers we still buy.
Impact on the value: Average
-
Special series and collaborations
Breitling has made many limited editions, among them the long-running Bentley collaboration. If there is a number or a distinct engraving on the caseback, do mention it with your request.
Impact on the value: Average
We put no guide price here. At Breitling the same model varies widely by movement and by strap.
Request a valuationBreitling references we buy often
Breitling puts the reference on the caseback, and at this brand the first letter says something about the material: an A stands for steel, an E for titanium and a K for solid gold. Two traps to watch: an X is not titanium but Breitlight, and a B, C, D or G means a gold bezel on a steel case and not a gold case. The model code follows after it. If you do not know it, send a photo of the caseback.
| Reference | Model | Period | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| 806 | Navitimer | fifties and sixties | hand-wound, slide rule, no date |
| A13 and A23 | Navitimer and Chronomat in steel | nineties and 2000s | the A points to a steel case |
| AB01 | Navitimer with calibre B01 | from 2009 | Breitling's own chronograph movement |
| AB01 and AB011 | Chronomat with calibre B01 | from 2009 | rider tabs on the rotating bezel |
| A17 and A17326 | Superocean | 2000s and later | dive watch, coloured bezel |
| A13 and AB20 | Superocean Heritage | from 2007 | vintage lines, mesh or rubber strap |
| E prefix | Avenger and Aerospace in titanium | 2000s and later | the E stands for titanium, the V for black titanium. Note: an X is not titanium but Breitlight |
| K, H, J and R | Versions in solid gold | all periods | K yellow gold, H rose gold, J white gold, R red gold, case and bezel alike |
| B, C, D and G | Steel with a gold bezel | all periods | only the bezel is gold, the case stays steel. This is often taken for solid gold |
Your reference not listed? Breitling has thousands. We buy every version, vintage included and papers or no papers.
How to sell your Breitling to Reuven Watches
Three steps, and until the last one you are committed to nothing. If you say straight away which strap is fitted, that saves a question later.
Send your details and photos
Photograph the dial straight from above, the caseback with the reference and the clasp of the bracelet. On a Navitimer a photo of the slide rule from the side is useful, so we can see the state of the printing.
We establish the version and the movement
Beni Reuben reads the reference, establishes which movement is inside and assesses whether the bracelet is the original. Within 24 hours you will hear what we offer, weekends included.
Come by or send it insured
If the offer suits you, you come by in Utrecht or send your Breitling insured. We arrange that shipping and pay for it. If you turn the offer down, you keep your watch.
What helps when valuing a Breitling?
At Breitling the information is on the caseback and the rest is in the bracelet and the movement. These six points usually bring us where we need to be.
-
Photo of the case back
Status: Helpful
That is where the reference sits, usually with the serial number. The first letter already tells you the material.
-
Photo of the dial
Status: Helpful
Straight from above and in daylight, so the sub-dials and the text are legible.
-
Which bracelet is fitted
Status: Helpful
A Rouleaux, a Pilot, a Navitimer bracelet, rubber or leather. Do say too whether the clasp is the original Breitling one.
-
Spare links
Status: Optional
Links that were once removed count. On a Breitling bracelet they really do make a difference.
-
Does the chronograph work
Status: Optional
Start, stop and reset. If the sub-dials snap back neatly to twelve, that is a good sign.
-
Papers and service receipts
Status: Optional
The chronometer certificate and a service receipt make the year and the version traceable.
There is no fixed list: send what you can manage. We go through the rest once we are in touch. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.
Offer your Breitling
On a Breitling the bracelet is part of the watch and not an accessory. An original one counts.
What do we look at first on a Breitling?
Four things that decide most about what a watch fetches at this brand, and that you can check yourself before offering it.
Which movement is inside
From the outside you rarely see it, but at Breitling it matters a great deal. We work it out from the reference, the year and the layout of the sub-dials. A chronograph with the counter at nine and a date window at three belongs to a different movement from one with three counters at three, six and nine.
The slide rule and the bezel
The rotating ring of a Navitimer or Chronomat should turn evenly, without play and without spots where it catches. The printing of the scale wears with daily use. We turn it round and look at how crisp the fine graduations still are.
The bracelet and the clasp
We check whether the bracelet belongs to the reference and whether the clasp is the original. The heavy bracelets stretch at the pins, and you notice that as play between the links. Loose links you still have lying about count, so do mention them.
Replaced dials and bezels
On older Breitlings, dials and bezels have sometimes been replaced along the way, occasionally at a service and occasionally to make the watch look better. We compare the colour of the luminous material on the hands and the hour markers, because if those diverge something has been replaced.
If you are unsure about any of these points, simply show us. We ask for whatever we need and you do not have to work anything out in advance.
Have your Breitling assessedSell your Breitling to us or advertise it yourself?
For Breitling the supply is large, especially on the steel chronographs. That means you are up against many similar listings and that buyers press on the movement and the bracelet.
| Reuven Watches | Advertising it yourself | Trading in at a dealer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How soon you know where you stand | An offer within 24 hours | For as long as your advert has to run | Immediately, if you buy something back |
| Questions about the movement | We work it out ourselves | You answer them again for every viewer | The dealer decides |
| A watch on a replacement strap | No obstacle; we assess the whole watch | This is what buyers press hardest on | Pushes the trade-in value down |
| What it costs you | Nothing; the shipping is on us too | Advertising costs and your own time | You are tied to a purchase |
| Risk in transit | We ship insured and arrange it all | You arrange and carry it yourself | Not applicable |
| When the offer becomes final | Only once you agree | Only once there is a buyer | At the trade-in |
Selling it yourself can bring in more, and we say so honestly. At this brand it only requires that you can answer questions about the movement and the originality of the bracelet.

Questions about selling a Breitling
My Breitling is on a different strap. Will you still buy it?
Yes. We simply buy it and assess the watch as a whole.
An original Breitling bracelet does count, because it is heavy and expensive separately. If you still have the original bracelet lying about, send it along, even if it is no longer on the watch.
What is the difference between a Breitling with calibre B01 and an older chronograph?
The B01 is the chronograph movement Breitling makes itself, fitted to the models from 2009 onwards. Before that, movements were bought in from other manufacturers.
Both run perfectly well. It is only that the market treats them differently, so we work out which you have.
The slide rule on my Navitimer turns stiffly. Does that matter?
It belongs in the assessment, but it is no reason for us not to buy the watch.
Simply mention it in your request. Then you know in advance where you stand and we do not come back to it afterwards.
Do you also buy a Breitling with a quartz movement?
Yes. The Colt and the Aerospace appeared in quartz and we buy them just the same.
Do mention it, because in the market a quartz version is a different watch from the same case with a mechanical movement.
Where is the reference number on my Breitling?
On the caseback, usually together with the serial number. The first letter already says something about the material: an A for steel, an E for titanium, a V for black titanium and an H, J, K or R for solid gold.
Two things people trip over: an X is not titanium but Breitlight, the brand's own material. And a B, C, D or G means a gold bezel on a steel case and therefore not a gold case. If you cannot read it, send a sharp photo of the caseback.
Do you also buy vintage Breitlings?
Yes, including the Navitimers from the fifties and sixties, the Chronomat of that period and the work from the seventies.
On vintage we look especially at the dial and at whether all the parts belong together.
How soon do I get an offer on my Breitling?
Within 24 hours of your request, every day of the week. Weekends included.
You are not tied to it. You decide only once you have seen it.

Beni Reuben
Owner and valuer at Reuven Watches
On a Breitling, Beni Reuben reads the code on the case first, because it says the most. He starts with the reference on the caseback and with the question of exactly which movement is inside, because that is what separates two seemingly identical chronographs.

Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we get most.
Which Breitling model do you want to sell?
We buy every Breitling, from a Navitimer from the fifties to a Chronomat from last year. For each model we look at the movement, the bracelet, the condition and what comes with it. The letter your reference starts with already gives the case material; we read it along with the rest.
Sell your Breitling Navitimer
The Navitimer is the model Breitling is recognised by fastest, with the rotating slide rule around the dial. If you want to sell a Breitling Navitimer, the movement and the case size decide the most: a hand-wound one from the sixties, a version with a bought-in movement from the nineties and a modern one with the calibre B01 are three different watches.
Sell your Breitling Chronomat
You recognise the Chronomat by the four tabs on the rotating bezel. The model ran in steel, in steel and gold and in solid gold, and the recent versions carry the in-house calibre B01. To sell a Breitling Chronomat we look at the generation, the bezel and the bracelet.
Sell your Breitling Superocean
The Superocean is the diver of the house, with a striking bezel colour and a high water resistance. If you want to sell a Breitling Superocean, the size, the colour and the state of the bezel weigh heaviest, together with whether the original bracelet is still fitted.
Sell your Breitling Superocean Heritage
The Heritage line brings the lines of the fifties divers back in a modern case. The versions with a mesh bracelet and with a ceramic bezel are assessed separately. Here too the original bracelet counts.
Sell your Breitling Avenger
The Avenger is the brand's most rugged line, often in titanium and with cases up to nearly fifty millimetres. When selling a Breitling Avenger we look at the material, the size and the state of the crown guard, because that is the part that takes the most punishment.
Sell your Breitling Premier or Top Time
The Premier and the Top Time are the dressier lines, both based on older work from the house. They wear smaller than the sports models and draw a different audience. We buy both the original examples and the re-editions.
Sell your Breitling Colt or Aerospace
The Colt and the Aerospace are lighter and appeared partly with quartz movements. If you want to sell a Breitling Colt or Aerospace, do say whether the watch is quartz or mechanical, because on these lines that is the distinction the market draws.
Sell your vintage Breitling or Bentley edition
We buy outside the well-known lines too. A vintage Navitimer, an old Chronomat, a Chronoliner or a version from the Bentley collaboration is welcome here, with or without box and papers. If there is a number on the caseback, do mention it.
