With a pre-owned Rolex three things matter: does the watch match the reference it is listed under, is the case still crisp or has it been buffed away, and do the parts belong together and to the year. We assess that before a watch goes on sale and state what we saw, even when it is not flattering. One thing to note about the serial number: at Rolex serials have been random since 2010, so you can no longer read the year from them. It is then only on the warranty card.
The pre-owned market for Rolex is large, and that has a downside: much of it is sold by parties that have never held the watch. What you then buy is a description, and that is only as good as the person who wrote it.
Every watch in this stock we bought ourselves. That means somebody held it, put the case edges up to the light and ran the movement before a photo was taken. The photos you see are of that example and not from a catalogue.
Ask for the reference number and the serial number. Bear in mind that a serial from after 2010 no longer gives a year, because they have been random since then; the year is then only on the warranty card. What you can see in our photos is the state of the case edges, and at Rolex that is where most of the money sits.
This is not an authentication procedure but the condition assessment: what can be seen on the watch and what of it belongs in the description. Whatever we find, we state.
At Rolex the case consists of brushed surfaces with polished edges between them, and those edges should be crisp. With every polish material disappears and the line goes rounder. That cannot be put right, so it belongs in the description and should not be left out.
Do the dial, the hands, the bezel and the bracelet match the reference and the period in which this watch was made? At a service, parts used simply to be replaced, and that does not make a watch bad, but it does make it something other than a fully original example.
Does it run, does the date change over at midnight, and does it keep time reasonably? On a chronograph: start, stop and a clean reset to zero. Whatever is not right we state, and if we have it looked at, the receipt comes with it.
Lift the watch by the clasp and the links sag apart; how far says how much it has been worn. On an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet loose links can be sourced, but on older references not always, and then stretch is a permanent fact.
If something in a photo leaves you unsure, just ask. We would rather take another shot than have you buy something you later regret.
Warranty and authenticity
We are a shop in Utrecht and not a middleman. Everything here we bought from a private owner or a dealer, checked and photographed. That is slower than passing listings on, and it is the reason the stock is small.
These three apply to every watch you buy from us, whatever the brand or the amount.
If anything goes wrong with the running movement within a year, we put it right. Damage from drops, water or your own interventions is not covered.
The termsIf you buy in the web shop, you have fourteen days from receipt to change your mind, no reason needed. Looking and trying on is fine, as long as it comes back undamaged.
ReturnsOn the Amsterdamsestraatweg in Utrecht. Wednesday and Thursday without an appointment, all other days by appointment.

Sell your Yacht-MasterThe stock changes, because we fill it with what we buy. If the model you are looking for is not listed right now, do say so; we will keep it in mind as things come in. Below, each model sets out what to watch for on a pre-owned example.
The Submariner is the dive watch most people think of and therefore also the model with the most variants on the pre-owned market. If you want to buy a pre-owned Submariner, look at the reference: a 16610 with an aluminium bezel is a different watch from a 116610LN with ceramic, and in a small photo the two are interchangeable. Ask about the crispness of the case edges too.
The Datejust exists in five case sizes and in more versions than any other model: a smooth or a fluted bezel, an Oyster or a Jubilee bracelet, steel, two-tone or gold, with or without stones. When buying a pre-owned Datejust that combination decides the most, so look at exactly what is in the photo and not only at the name.
The GMT-Master II has a two-colour bezel and an extra hand for a second time zone. The colourways have nicknames: Pepsi for red and blue, Batman for blue and black, Sprite for green and black. On a pre-owned example we check that the twenty-four-hour hand can be set independently and that the bezel turns evenly.
The Daytona is the chronograph of the house and the model the market makes the most fuss about. If you want to buy a pre-owned Daytona, the first question is which generation: hand-wound, the Zenith years, or the in-house movement from 2000. We check that the counters reset cleanly to zero before the watch goes on sale.
Box and warranty card make a watch traceable and that is welcome to a buyer. We always state what is and is not included; if it is not listed, it is not there. A Rolex without papers is no less genuine, but it is harder to sell on, and you ought to know that in advance.
We are at Amsterdamsestraatweg 251 in Utrecht and that is our only premises. On Wednesday and Thursday between 12:00 and 17:00 you can walk in without an appointment; all other days we work by appointment, weekends included. Trying a watch on before you buy it is, at these sums, not a luxury but good sense.
Many people do both: one watch out and another in. We buy as well, of every brand and in any condition, and there is no minimum value. The page on selling a Rolex sets out what we check when buying and how the process runs.
That depends on what you are buying it for. As a watch to wear: an unspoilt pre-owned example costs considerably less than new and does exactly the same. As an investment we make no claims, because nobody knows what the market will do and anyone who promises otherwise is guessing.
Yes. Everything here we bought and assessed before it went on sale. So we have held the watch, and the photos are of that example and not from a catalogue.
What we saw is in the description, even when it is not flattering. A scratch that is there belongs in the listing.
Yes, a year on the movement. If anything goes wrong with the running movement within that year, we put it right.
Damage from drops, water or your own interventions is not covered. Beyond that you keep your statutory rights, and those reach further than our guarantee; that is set out on warranty and authenticity.
We would welcome it. We are at Amsterdamsestraatweg 251 in Utrecht. On Wednesday and Thursday between 12:00 and 17:00 you can walk in without an appointment; all other days by appointment, weekends included.
At these sums, holding a watch before you decide is not a luxury but good sense.
If you buy in the web shop, you have fourteen days from the moment you receive it to change your mind, without giving a reason.
Exactly how that works and what has to come back is set out on returns and cooling-off period. If you buy at the counter, that period does not apply, because you have seen the watch and had it on.
No, and we state it per watch. What is not listed is not included.
A Rolex without papers is no less genuine, but it is harder to sell on. You ought to know that in advance rather than find it out.
On older watches only. Between 1987 and 2010 the serial number began with a letter, and that letter belongs to a period.
From 2010 Rolex has used random numbers from which no year can be derived. The year is then only on the warranty card, and an online look-up tool that promises you one anyway is inventing it.
Because we buy and check everything ourselves before it goes on sale. That is slower than passing other people's listings on.
If the model you are looking for is not listed, do say so. What is here changes, because we fill it with what comes in.
We buy and we sell, and many people do both at the same time. Simply get in touch with what you have and what you are looking for, and we will see what is possible.
What we check when buying is set out on selling a Rolex.
Tell us which model and which version you are looking for. Stock changes with what we buy, so we will keep it in mind. Or come by in Utrecht and see what is here now.
