Where to find the reference number

At most brands the reference number sits between the lugs, on the twelve o'clock side and under the bracelet. It fixes exactly which version it is, and that says more about a watch than the model name alone.

The Rolex Sky-Dweller is made for people who are often on the move: besides local time it shows a second time zone, and it has an annual calendar. This example carries reference 336934, has a green dial and was made in 2026.

What this watch does

In the centre of the dial a 24-hour disc turns for home time, while the regular hands show local time. The date is at 3 o’clock. The month is read from twelve small windows around the edge: the window that turns red is the current month. Because the calendar knows the difference between months of thirty and thirty-one days, you only need to advance the date by hand at the end of February.

The bezel

The fluted bezel is made of 18 ct white gold and does more than look good. With the Ring Command system you turn it to another position to choose what the crown sets: the date, local time or home time.

Practical

The steel case measures 42 mm and is water-resistant to 100 metres. Calibre 9002 has a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The watch sits on a steel Jubilee bracelet with a folding clasp. Box and papers are included.

The story

About this watch

Rolex introduced the Sky-Dweller in 2012 as a watch for people who travel a lot. It combines a second time zone, read on a 24-hour disc in the centre of the dial, with an annual calendar that knows the difference between months of thirty and thirty-one days by itself.

The functions are set with the rotating bezel, the Ring Command system of Rolex. The version in steel with a white gold bezel arrived in 2017. This reference, the 336934, appeared in 2023 with the new calibre 9002.

What is an annual calendar?

A calendar that knows which months have thirty days and which have thirty-one. As a result you only need to correct the date by hand once a year: on 1 March, because February is shorter.

How do I read the second time zone?

The 24-hour disc in the centre of the dial shows home time. The regular hands show local time. That way you see at a glance what time it is at home and whether it is day or night there.

How can I tell which month it is?

Around the edge of the dial there are twelve small windows, one at each hour marker. The window that turns red shows the month: at the 1 o’clock marker it is January, at 2 o’clock February, and so on.

What is the rotating bezel for?

With the Ring Command system you use the bezel to choose what the crown sets: the date, local time or home time. You turn the bezel to the position you want and then adjust only that one function with the crown.

Can I swim with this Sky-Dweller?

The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres, so swimming and showering are fine. Always screw the crown down firmly after setting it, because the water resistance depends on a screwed-down crown.

Is the Rolex warranty still running?

Rolex gives a five-year international warranty, counted from the date on the warranty card. For a watch from 2026 it is therefore still running; the card comes with the papers. On top of that we give a one-year warranty on the movement.
