Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A
Over forty millimetres, time and date only, on the rubber-like strap. The reference most people mean when they say Aquanaut.
You can sell your Patek Philippe Aquanaut to Reuven Watches in Utrecht. We buy every reference, from a 5065 from the nineties to a 5168 in white gold or a 5968 as a chronograph. Send a few photos and you will hear what we offer within 24 hours.
You are not committed to anything. Your details stay confidential.
What a Patek Philippe Aquanaut is worth depends on the reference, the case size and the metal, and on whether the certificate of origin is still with it. A 5167 in steel of forty millimetres is a different watch from a 5168 in white gold or a 5968 with a chronograph. On this model the strap is a part that wears and counts differently from the case. We assess your watch on its own and you receive an offer without obligation within 24 hours, weekends included.
The Aquanaut arrived in 1997 as the younger, informal counterpart to the sports model the house had launched twenty years earlier. The case is an octagon with rounded corners, the dial has a chequered pattern that returns in the strap, and that strap is made of a rubber-like material rather than metal. That last point makes the assessment different from any other watch in this class.
Which reference and which size, and in which metal is the case made? Is the watch on the rubber strap or on a bracelet? And what state is that strap in at the lug end, where it flexes most? With those answers we almost always arrive at the right reference, papers or no papers.
Unlike a polished case, a strap can be replaced. If yours has hardened or split, we buy the watch just the same and there is no minimum value. Do keep the original strap if you ever fitted another one, because it belongs to the watch.
The Aquanaut comes with time and date only, with a second time zone and as a chronograph, in steel and in precious metal. Below are the six that reach us most, with the number alongside so you can find it on your certificate.
Over forty millimetres, time and date only, on the rubber-like strap. The reference most people mean when they say Aquanaut.
The same case and dial but on an integrated steel bracelet. This version left the catalogue in 2025.
Thirty-eight millimetres, with a coarser chequered pattern and a crown without guards. The version the model started with.
Two pushers on the left to move the local time an hour at a time, with a second hand for the home time.
Over forty-two millimetres with a chronograph, and on the steel version with orange accents on the dial and the strap.
Over forty-two millimetres in white gold, with a khaki green or blue dial and a strap in the same colour.
At this brand the suffix after the number says what is under the case: an A stands for steel and a 1A for steel on a metal bracelet. If you do not know that code, we read it from the certificate or from the photos.
At Patek Philippe you read the number not from the case but from the certificate of origin, alongside a case number engraved in the metal. On the Aquanaut the suffix after the number tells you straight away which strap the watch hung on.

| 5261R | Aquanaut Luce Annual Calendar | 2023 onwards | rose gold, day and month in windows |
Not finding your reference here? We also buy the ladies' versions with stones, the annual calendar and the early series from the nineties.
The figures below apply to the references with time and date. On the Travel Time and the chronograph there is more on the dial and the case is larger; that is noted line by line.
This table is here to help you place your own watch. An offer does not follow from it: we make that on the individual watch, with the strap and the certificate alongside.
You do not have to be an expert to see what condition your Aquanaut is in. Go through these four points in daylight with the watch in hand.
Bend the strap gently at the lug end and see whether the material gives there or stays stiff and shows fine cracks. This is the point that moves most and gives up first. A hardened or split strap is no disaster on this model, because it can be replaced, but we do want to know how it stands.
Tilt the dial under a lamp and see whether the squares are equally crisp and equally deep throughout. On the first generation that pattern is coarser than on the later ones. Note the colour too: khaki green, blue, brown, black and white have all occurred, and the colour of the dial should match that of the strap.
Hold the watch at an angle and follow with your eye the edge between the top surface and the side. On this case the top is brushed and the flank polished, with a clear line between them. If that line still runs crisply across all eight corners, little has been polished away.
Look across the dial at an angle at the numerals. They are applied and filled with luminous material. Check that none has dropped out, that they all stand at the same height and that the colour of the fill matches that on the hands. If one of the two differs, something has been replaced along the way.
If you cannot manage all of this, that is no problem. Send what you can and keep the certificate to hand; we go through the rest with you.
Have your Aquanaut assessedOn this model the references sit further apart than the photos suggest, and the metal does the most in that. Below are the points that count, from heaviest to lightest.
A 5065 of thirty-eight millimetres, a 5167 of over forty or a 5968 of over forty-two are three different watches. This is the first question and immediately the weightiest.
Impact on the value: Large
Steel, white gold or rose gold, and on a few editions with brilliants on the bezel. In a photo the difference between white gold and steel is not always visible, so we always establish this.
Impact on the value: Large
At this brand the certificate of origin makes the watch traceable, because it carries the reference, the case number and the date of sale. Without that paper we still buy, but it does make a difference.
Impact on the value: Large
Hardened or split at the lug end is a given on this model and not a deal breaker, because the strap is a wear part. If you kept the original strap when another went on, that counts.
Impact on the value: Average
Khaki green, blue, brown, black or white. Within the same reference the colour can make a noticeable difference, and strap and dial should match.
Impact on the value: Average
A service at Patek Philippe with the receipt to match is a plus. Do also say whether an extra strap, a small tool or a second clasp came with it, because those pieces often go missing.
Impact on the value: Average
There are no guide prices here, and that is deliberate. On these references the market moves too much to pin a number to that will still hold tomorrow, and you are better served by an offer on your own watch.
Request a valuation
On an Aquanaut the age is in the strap, at the lug end. That is where the rubber hardens first.
These three share a visual language and yet each has its own audience, because on this model what it can do decides who looks for it. Below they stand side by side.
| Aquanaut 5167 | Travel Time 5164 | Chronograph 5968 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| On the dial | Time and date | Two time zones, day and night | Chronograph with counters |
| Case size | just over 40 mm | just over 40 mm | just over 42 mm |
| Pushers | None | Two, on the left | Two, beside the crown |
| from | 2007 | 2011 | 2018 |
| In which metals | Steel, white and rose gold | steel and rose gold | steel and white gold |
| How often we see it | The most common of the three | Regularly | Noticeably less often |
Not sure which you have? Look at the left side of the case. Two small pushers one above the other belong to a Travel Time. Two pushers beside the crown on the right belong to a chronograph.
Four things that on this model regularly cause confusion or a miscalculation. No predictions about the market, only what we see come past.
On this model the strap is a wear part, and after years of wear it has often gone stiff at the lug end. That a new one is fitted is no obstacle. What does make a difference is whether you still have the original, even if it can no longer be worn. So do not throw it away before you sell.
The 5167A on the rubber strap and the 5167/1A on the integrated steel bracelet are the same watch with a different strap, but in the market they are treated separately. Since the steel version left the catalogue in 2025 that holds all the more. So state in your request which of the two you are offering.
The early 5065 and the later 5165 wear smaller than the 5167 and are sought by people who want exactly that size. That those references are older does not mean there is less demand for them. So simply state the size and the year, even if you think the larger sizes are more in demand.
We see both mistakes come past. The difference is quickly made: the Aquanaut has a chequered pattern, applied numerals and a smooth case side; the Nautilus has horizontal grooves, batons as markers and two protruding hinges. With the right name on your request you reach the right buyer.
If you do not know where your watch fits in here, have it looked at. The offer carries no obligation and everything is handled discreetly: there is no advert and no strangers at your door.

A selection of three of the 50 Google reviews, quoted word for word.
We buy every Patek Philippe Aquanaut, from a 5065 from the nineties to a 5968 with a chronograph. For each reference we look at the case size, the metal, the certificate and the state of the strap. Keep the original strap even if another one is now fitted; it belongs with the watch.
The 5167 is the Aquanaut with time and date only in a case of over forty millimetres, with crown guards on either side. If you want to sell a Patek Philippe 5167, the first question is whether it is the version on the rubber strap or the one on the integrated steel bracelet, because in the market those two are treated separately.
The 5065 is the first Aquanaut, from 1997, with a thirty-eight millimetre case and a coarser chequered pattern than the later references. To sell an Aquanaut 5065 we look at the dial and at whether the case has ever been repolished, and on this model the smaller size has an audience of its own.
The Travel Time has two pushers on the left with which you move the local time an hour at a time, while a second hand keeps the home time. When selling an Aquanaut Travel Time we check that those pushers switch properly and that the home time holds steady. We buy both the steel 5164A and the rose gold 5164R.
The 5968 is the Aquanaut Chronograph, over forty-two millimetres, with orange accents on the dial and the strap on the steel version. If you want to sell a Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph, we look at whether the chronograph starts, stops and resets to zero, and at whether the accents have kept their colour.
The 5168G is the white gold version of over forty-two millimetres, with a khaki green or blue dial and a strap in the same colour. To sell an Aquanaut 5168G we establish the metal first, because white gold and steel are often indistinguishable in a photo and the difference is considerable.
The Luce is the version of around thirty-five millimetres with brilliants on the bezel, and it also exists with an annual calendar. If you want to sell a Patek Philippe Aquanaut Luce, do say whether all the stones are still there and whether the certificate is still with it. We buy them in steel and in rose gold.
Besides steel, the Aquanaut has appeared in white gold and in rose gold, with dials and straps in matching colours. When selling a gold Patek Philippe Aquanaut the precious metal counts in the assessment, alongside the reference and the state of the case. We also buy the versions on a leather strap.
A strap that has hardened or split at the lug end is common on this model and is no obstacle. We buy the watch just the same, because a strap can be replaced and a case cannot. Do keep the original strap if another one is now fitted, because it belongs to the watch and counts.
That depends on the reference, the case size and the metal, and on whether the certificate of origin is included. A 5167 in steel and a 5168 in white gold sit in different markets.
We do not name figures here, because on these references they would soon be out of date. Send a few photos and the certificate, and you will hear what we offer within 24 hours.
Yes, and on this model it is no exception either. The strap is a wear part that flexes most at the lug end, and after years of wear it gives up there.
Do not replace it yourself and do not throw the original away. If another one is now fitted, keep the first with it, because it belongs to the watch.
The same watch with a different strap. The 5167A hangs on the rubber-like strap, the 5167/1A on an integrated steel bracelet.
In the market those two are treated separately, and since the steel version left the catalogue in 2025 that holds all the more. So state which of the two you are offering.
First feel the strap: a rubber-like material points to an Aquanaut. Then look at the side of the case. If it runs smoothly round, it is an Aquanaut; if two parts protrude at three and nine o'clock, you have a Nautilus.
The dial shows it too: a chequered pattern with applied numerals on the Aquanaut, horizontal grooves with batons on the Nautilus.
By eye that is often impossible, because the colours sit close together. The weight in the hand does differ noticeably: white gold is heavier.
The certificate states the metal, and the reference says it too: a G at the end belongs to white gold, an A to steel. If you do not know, we establish it.
Yes, all versions, in steel and in precious metal.
On the Travel Time we check that the two pushers on the left switch properly. On the chronograph, that it starts, stops and resets to zero cleanly. If something does not work, just say so; it is no reason for us to hold back an offer.
That is fine. Any brand, any condition, and we set no lower limit.
At Patek Philippe that paper does make the watch traceable, so do have a look for it. If you only have the box or only a service receipt, that counts too.
Usually the same day and in any case within 24 hours, Saturdays and Sundays included.
After that it is up to you. You may set the offer alongside others and turn it down; the watch then stays with you.
