What sets the value of your Tudor?
At Tudor the age decides which market your watch falls into, and those two markets work very differently. On a dive watch from before 1985 it is about the dial and originality; on a Black Bay from after 2012 about the reference and the movement. These are the six points that matter most.
-
Vintage or modern line
A dive watch from the sixties or seventies and a Black Bay from 2018 are two different markets with two different kinds of buyer. On the first, collectors look at the dial; on the second, people look at the reference and the condition.
Impact on the value: Large
-
A bought-in movement or Tudor's own
This is the point most often missed at this brand. The Black Bay 79220 from 2012 has a bought-in movement; the 79230 from 2016 has Tudor's own calibre. From the outside they are all but indistinguishable, and in the market they sit apart.
Impact on the value: Large
-
The dial on older pieces
On the dive watches from the sixties and seventies the dial is what it comes down to: the pattern of the hour markers, whether the printing is still original and how the colour has aged. A replaced dial changes the watch fundamentally.
Impact on the value: Large
-
The state of case and bezel
At Tudor the cases are simpler in shape than at the brands above it, but on a dive watch the bezel is a wear part. Is the insert still intact, does it still turn evenly, and are the flanks still crisp?
Impact on the value: Average
-
Material and bracelet
Steel, titanium, two-tone or gold, and on the Black Bay bronze as well. The strap varies widely: a steel bracelet, a leather strap, a woven nylon strap or a rubber strap, and only the first two are expensive to replace.
Impact on the value: Average
-
Box, papers and spare strap
The modern Black Bay has a large, recognisable box and often came with a second strap. On older watches nobody expects papers any more, so their absence is no obstacle.
Impact on the value: Average
We name no figures here, because between a Black Bay from last year and a dive watch from 1970 there is no comparison at all. We make an offer on your own watch.
Request a valuationTudor references we buy often
At Tudor the reference number on older watches is four to five digits, and on the modern lines five digits, sometimes with letters after it for the version. It sits between the lugs and on the warranty card. If you cannot find it, we work it out from the photos.
| Reference | Model | Period | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7924 | Oyster Prince Submariner | from 1958 | the first Tudor diver to 200 metres, which gave the Black Bay 58 its name |
| 7016 and 7021 | Submariner with Snowflake hands | from 1969 | angular hands and square hour markers, into the early eighties |
| 9411 and 94010 | Submariner, later generation | seventies and eighties | Snowflake hands, also with a blue dial |
| 76100 and 79090 | Submariner, the last generations | eighties and nineties | round hands, closer to the Rolex idiom |
| 79220 | Heritage Black Bay | circa 2012 to 2016 | bought-in movement, rose logo and Self-Winding in an arc |
| 79230 | Heritage Black Bay | from 2016 | in-house calibre MT5602, shield logo |
| 79030 | Black Bay 58 | from 2018 | 39 mm, the compact version of the line |
| 79830RB | Black Bay GMT | from 2018 | second time zone, red and blue bezel |
| 25600 and 25610 | Pelagos | from circa 2012 | titanium, water resistant to 500 metres, with a helium escape valve |
| 79950 and related | Ranger | from 2022 | 39 mm, a field watch without a bezel |
| 28500 and related | Royal | 2020 onwards | integrated bracelet, fluted bezel |
| 74000 and 94500 | Oysterdate and chronographs | seventies to nineties | including the Prince Oysterdate with date and day |
Your reference not listed? Tudor has a long history with many variants, among them the Oysterdate chronographs and the Prince line. We buy every version, papers or no papers.
How to sell your Tudor to Reuven Watches
Three steps, and until the last one you are committed to nothing. At this brand, above all photograph the dial straight from above, because on older watches that is where the whole story sits.
Send your details and photos
Photograph the dial straight from above, the case from the side and the number between the lugs. On an older dive watch a sharp photo of the dial is the most important thing you can take.
We establish generation, reference and movement
Beni Reuben establishes which period the watch comes from, which reference it is and which movement is inside it. On a vintage dive watch he also checks whether the dial and the hands belong together and belong to the case. Within 24 hours you will hear what we offer.
Come by or send it insured
If the offer suits you, you come by in Utrecht or send your Tudor insured. We arrange that shipping and pay for it, from abroad as well. If you turn the offer down, you keep your watch.
What helps when valuing a Tudor?
With Tudor it comes down to the generation and to the dial. These six points usually bring us exactly where we need to be.
-
A photo of the dial straight from above
Status: Helpful
On an older dive watch this is the decisive image: the shape of the hour markers, the printing and how the colour has aged.
-
The number between the lugs
Status: Helpful
That is where the reference is, and on older watches the serial number too. You have to push the bracelet aside for it.
-
A photo of the shape of the hands
Status: Helpful
Angular hands point to the Snowflake generation, round hands to the later series. That difference matters for the value.
-
A close-up photo of the bezel
Status: Optional
On a dive watch the bezel is a wear part. We check whether the insert is still intact and whether it still turns evenly.
-
Spare straps
Status: Optional
The modern Black Bay often came with a second strap, in leather or in woven nylon. If you still have it, do say so.
-
Box and papers
Status: Optional
On the modern lines it counts. On a watch from the seventies nobody expects it any more.
There is no fixed list: send what you can manage. We go through the rest once we are in touch. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.
Offer your Tudor
On an older Tudor diver the hands and the dial belong together. If they agree, the conversation is about the watch.
What do we look at first on a Tudor?
Four things that decide most about what a watch fetches at this brand, and that you can check yourself before offering it.
The Black Bay changed movement in 2016
The 79220 from 2012 has a bought-in movement and can be recognised by the rose logo on the dial and by the words Self-Winding in an arc. In 2016 the line moved to the in-house calibre MT5602 and the number became 79230, with a shield instead of a rose. From a distance you cannot see that, so pass on the reference.
Snowflake is a hand shape, not a model
The angular hands with the square tip come from the dive watches from 1969 onwards and are known in the trade as Snowflake. So it is not a model name but a feature, and it runs across several references. For a collector, the combination of those hands with the matching dial is what it comes down to.
Tudor and Rolex come from the same founder
The brand was registered as a trade mark in 1926 on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, and he took it over himself in 1936. On the older watches you see that in the cases and the crowns. That does not mean a Tudor is assessed as a Rolex: they are separate markets, with their own prices.
The Pelagos is a different kind of watch from the Black Bay
The Pelagos is titanium, water resistant to five hundred metres and has a valve to release helium. That makes it lighter and more technical than the Black Bay, which sits at a hundred to two hundred metres. On the Pelagos we look especially at the titanium case, because it dulls in patches sooner than steel.
If you are unsure about any of these points, simply show us. We ask for whatever we need and you do not have to work anything out in advance.
Have your Tudor assessedSell your Tudor to us or advertise it yourself?
With Tudor what mainly matters is whether you have a vintage dive watch or a modern Black Bay, and that also decides how much work selling it yourself becomes.
| Reuven Watches | Advertising it yourself | Trading in at a dealer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How soon you know where you stand | An offer within 24 hours | For as long as your advert has to run | Immediately, if you buy something back |
| Proving the dial is the original | We assess that ourselves and say what we see | You, with every viewer again | The dealer decides |
| A bezel or bracelet that is worn | No obstacle; we assess the whole watch | This is what buyers press hardest on | Pushes the trade-in value down |
| What it costs you | Nothing; the shipping is on us too | Advertising costs and your own time | You are tied to a purchase |
| Risk in transit | We ship insured and arrange it all | You arrange and carry it yourself | Not applicable |
| When the offer becomes final | Only once you agree | Only once there is a buyer | At the trade-in |
Selling it yourself can bring in more, and we say so honestly. On a vintage dive watch it does require you to be able to show that the dial and the hands are original.

Questions about selling a Tudor
What is the difference between a Black Bay 79220 and a 79230?
The movement. The 79220 came to market in 2012 with a bought-in movement; the 79230 from 2016 has Tudor's own calibre MT5602.
You can see it on the dial too: the first generation carries a rose and the words Self-Winding in an arc, the second a shield. Pass on the reference and the offer is immediately more precise.
My Tudor has those angular hands. What does that mean?
Those are the hands known in the trade as Snowflake, and they belong to the dive watches from 1969 onwards. They were used into the early eighties.
So it is not a model name but a feature. For collectors the combination of those hands with the matching dial matters, so do take a sharp photo of the dial straight from above.
Is a Tudor the same as a Rolex?
No, but the brands do come from the same hand. Tudor was registered as a trade mark in 1926 on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, and he took it over himself in 1936.
In the market they are separate worlds with their own prices. A Tudor is therefore not assessed as a Rolex, and that works the other way round too: an old Tudor diver has its own serious following.
Where do I find the number on my Tudor?
Between the lugs, under the bracelet. On older watches the reference is on one side and the serial number on the other.
You have to push the bracelet aside or take it off for it. Take the photo with the light from the side, and the engraving is legible.
Do you also buy a Tudor that does not run?
Yes. We buy every brand, in any condition, and there is no minimum value.
On an older watch that has stood still for years that is the rule rather than the exception. Just say so and have nothing done to it before you offer it.
The bezel on my dive watch is worn. Is that a problem?
It counts in the offer, but it does not stand in the way of a sale. On a dive watch the bezel is a wear part.
Do not have it replaced before you sell. On older watches an original, worn bezel is often more interesting to a collector than a new one.
I no longer have the box and papers. Can I still sell it?
Yes. On the modern Black Bay the box counts, and on a watch from the seventies nobody expects papers any more.
If you still have an extra strap lying about, in leather or woven nylon, send it along. Many Black Bays came with one in the set.
How soon do I get an offer on my Tudor?
Within 24 hours of your request, every day of the week. Weekends included.
Our offer carries no obligation. You decide only once you have seen it.
Assessed by
Beni Reuben
Owner and valuer at Reuven Watches
With a Tudor, Beni Reuben first establishes which period the watch comes from, because that changes the whole assessment. On a vintage diver it is about the dial and the hands; on a modern Black Bay about the reference and the movement inside it.

Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we get most.
Which Tudor model do you want to sell?
We buy every Tudor, from a dive watch from 1969 to a recent Black Bay or Pelagos. For each generation we look at something different: on older watches at the dial and the hands, on the modern lines at the reference and the movement. Keep the reference between the lugs to hand.
Sell your Tudor Black Bay
The Black Bay arrived in 2012 and put the brand back on the map. If you want to sell a Tudor Black Bay, the first question is which reference it is: the 79220 from the early years has a bought-in movement, the 79230 from 2016 Tudor's own. That difference is barely visible from the outside and clearly felt in the market.
Sell your Tudor Black Bay 58
The Black Bay 58 is the compact thirty-nine millimetre version, on the market since 2018. The name refers to 1958, the year reference 7924 became the first Tudor diver water resistant to two hundred metres. When selling a Black Bay 58 we look at the state of the bezel and at whether the second strap is still with it.
Sell your Tudor Submariner or Snowflake
The dive watches with the angular hands from 1969 onwards, known in the trade as Snowflake, are collectors' territory. To sell such a Tudor Submariner a sharp photo of the dial is the most important thing you can supply: the pattern of the hour markers, the printing and the aged colour decide most of the answer.
Sell your Tudor Pelagos
The Pelagos is the brand's technical diver: a titanium case, water resistance to five hundred metres and a valve to release helium. If you want to sell a Tudor Pelagos, we look especially at the titanium case, because it dulls in patches sooner than steel and that cannot be buffed out.
Sell your Tudor Black Bay GMT
The Black Bay GMT arrived in 2018 with a second time zone and a red and blue bezel. To sell a Black Bay GMT we check that the twenty-four-hour hand can be set independently and that the bezel still turns evenly. We also buy the later versions in other colours.
Sell your Tudor Ranger or Royal
The Ranger is the field watch without a bezel, since 2022 in thirty-nine millimetres, and the Royal is the line with an integrated bracelet and a fluted bezel. Both are more recent, so when selling them how complete the set is and the state of the case weigh heaviest.
Sell your Tudor Prince Oysterdate or chronograph
The seventies to nineties gave us the Oysterdate and the Prince line, with a date and sometimes a day, and the chronographs alongside them. To sell an older Tudor with a date we check that the movement changes over cleanly and that the dial is the original.
Sell your gold or two-tone Tudor
Tudor makes versions in steel and gold and in solid gold, and on the Black Bay in bronze as well. When selling a gold or two-tone Tudor we look at how much gold there really is and whether case, bezel and bracelet belong together. On bronze a dark patina belongs to it and is not damage.
