Valuation

What sets the value of your Omega?

At Omega the difference lies more often in the movement than in the exterior. Two Speedmasters that look identical can have a different calibre and a different crystal, and that matters in the market. These are the six points that weigh heaviest on an Omega.

  • The calibre

The Speedmaster Professional ran successively on the calibre 321, the 861, the 1861 and, since 2021, the 3861. From the outside you can hardly see it; in the market all the more. If you do not know the calibre, we read it from the caseback and the year.

    Impact on the value: Large

  • Hesalite or sapphire

For years the Moonwatch was supplied with two crystals. Hesalite is the acrylic crystal of the original lunar version; sapphire is scratch resistant and comes with a transparent caseback. They are two separate references with their own audiences.

    Impact on the value: Large

  • A standard version or a limited edition

Omega releases many special series, from Apollo anniversaries and Snoopy to Olympic editions. At this brand such a series makes more difference than at most others. If there is a number on the caseback, do mention it.

    Impact on the value: Large

  • Papers and an Extract from the Archives

For older watches Omega supplies an extract from its own archive, with the production date and the original specification. Rolex cannot do that. If you have one, it removes doubt about originality.

    Impact on the value: Average

  • Original parts after a service

At a service Omega sometimes replaces the dial, the hands or the bezel. New-looking parts on an old watch depress the value for collectors. If you asked for the old parts back, that counts in your favour.

    Impact on the value: Average

  • The set that comes with it

A modern Speedmaster comes with a second strap and the tool to change it as well as the box and the card. A Seamaster often comes with an extra rubber strap. Complete means complete, and you notice it in the offer.

    Impact on the value: Average

There are no figures here, because at Omega the calibre decides too much. Every Omega is assessed on its own, because at this brand in particular two examples of the same model diverge widely.

Reference numbers

Omega references we buy often

Since about 2007 Omega has used a fourteen-digit PIC code, and before that a short reference such as 2531.80. The code is on the warranty card and on the box, not between the lugs as at Rolex. If you do not know it, send a photo of the dial and of the caseback.

Reference Model Period Feature
145.022 Speedmaster Professional circa 1968 to 1988 calibre 861, hesalite crystal, solid caseback
3570.50 Speedmaster Professional circa 1996 to 2014 calibre 1861, hesalite, the classic Moonwatch

From request to handover

How to sell your Omega to Reuven Watches

Three steps, and until the last one you are committed to nothing. The more you tell us about the movement and the papers, the sharper the offer can be straight away.

  1. The Reuven Watches request form on a phone, the first step to selling your watch

    Send your details and photos

State the model and, if you have it, the PIC code or the short reference from the warranty card. Photograph the dial straight from above and the caseback, because at Omega that is where the details we need are.

  2. A valuer assessing a Rolex Submariner wearing gloves and using tools for a no-obligation offer

We establish the calibre and the version

Beni Reuben works out which generation you have, which crystal is fitted and whether the parts belong to the year. On older Omegas in particular that is the work that decides the offer. Within 24 hours you will hear what we offer, weekends included.

  3. A phone showing a confirmed payment beside a Rolex in a Reuven Watches box

Come by or send it insured

If the offer suits you, you come by in Utrecht or send your Omega insured. We arrange that shipping and pay for it. If you turn the offer down, you keep your watch.

Preparation

What helps when valuing an Omega?

At Omega the information sits in different places than at Rolex. The caseback and the warranty card together tell almost the whole story. If something is missing, simply send what you do have.

  • Photo of the case back

    Status: Helpful

At Omega that carries the model designation and, on many versions, the number of a limited edition. This is the most important photo.

  • Photo of the dial

    Status: Helpful

Straight from above, in daylight and without flash. This shows the text, the hour markers and the colour of the luminous material.

  • The PIC code or short reference

    Status: Helpful

Fourteen digits such as 311.30.42.30.01.005, or on older watches a short code such as 2531.80. It is on the warranty card and usually on the box.

  • Do you know which crystal it has

    Status: Helpful

Hesalite is acrylic and slightly domed, sapphire is flat and scratch resistant. If you are unsure, take a photo from an angle and we can tell from the dome.

  • Spare strap and tool

    Status: Optional

A modern Speedmaster comes with a second strap and a changing tool, a Seamaster often with a rubber strap. Do say what you still have.

  • Service receipts or an Extract

    Status: Optional

A service receipt shows what was replaced. An Extract from the Archives from Omega shows how the watch left the factory.

There is no fixed list: send what you can manage. We go through the rest once we are in touch. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.

Expertise

What do we look at first on an Omega?

Four things that decide most about what a watch fetches at this brand, and that you can check yourself before offering it.

  • The case back first

Where Rolex puts the reference between the lugs, Omega puts its information on the caseback. That carries the model designation, on many sports models a medallion or an engraving, and on a limited edition the serial number of the run. If that engraving is missing or worn flat, it says something about use or about a replaced caseback.

  • Which generation runs inside

A Speedmaster Professional from 1975 and one from 2015 look almost the same from the front, but nearly half a century of movement development lies between them. We establish which calibre is fitted from the year, the caseback and the crown, because that is the point on which the market separates the two.

  • Lume and dial

On older Omegas the luminous material on the hour markers and the hands ages. If that ageing has kept pace between dial and hands, they belong together. If one of the two differs, something has been replaced along the way. That is no problem, but it does belong in the assessment.

  • Vintage watches assembled from parts

Omegas from the sixties and seventies are more often than average built up from parts of several watches. The case from one, the dial from another. We still buy them, but we say what we see and why it affects the offer.

If you are unsure about any of these points, simply show us. We ask for whatever we need and you do not have to work anything out in advance.

Have your Omega assessed
Your options side by side

Sell your Omega to us or put it on the market yourself?

For Omega the pre-owned market is large, and that cuts both ways. There are many buyers, but many comparable watches sit alongside yours. What that means for time and certainty is set out below.

Reuven Watches Selling online yourself Trading in at a jeweller
How soon you know where you standAn offer within 24 hours For as long as it takes a buyer to appear Immediately, but only if you buy something back
Who answers questions about the calibreOur valuer works it out You, again for every enquirer The seller behind the counter
Vintage without papersNo obstacle; we assess the watch ourselves This is where buyers most often drop out Often not wanted
What it costs youNothing; the shipping is on us too Advertising costs and your own time You are tied to a purchase
Risk in transitWe ship insured and arrange it all You arrange and carry it yourself Not applicable
When the offer becomes finalOnly once you agree Only once there is a buyer At the trade-in

Selling it yourself can bring in more, and we say so honestly. It only costs time, and on a vintage Omega you get questions about originality that you have to be able to answer.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about selling an Omega

Do you also buy an Omega without box and papers?

Yes. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.

At Omega it does help that the PIC code is on the warranty card. If you do not have it, we establish the version from the caseback and the dial.

What is the difference between a hesalite and a sapphire Speedmaster?

Hesalite is the acrylic crystal of the version closest to the original Moonwatch. Sapphire is scratch resistant and usually comes with a transparent caseback.

They are two separate references with their own audiences, so we assess them separately too.

My Omega was given a new dial at a service. Can I still sell it?

Certainly. We simply buy it and say what we see.

On older watches collectors look at original parts, so a replaced dial or replaced hands count in the offer. If you kept the old parts, send them along, because then it belongs together again.

What is an Extract from the Archives and do I need one?

It is an extract from Omega's own archive, with the production date and the original specification of your watch.

It is not required. If you do have one, it removes doubt about originality and that works in your favour.

Do you also buy older Omegas from the sixties and seventies?

Yes, including the Genève, the Dynamic, the Constellation and the early Seamasters from those years.

On those in particular we look carefully at whether the parts belong together, because many have been assembled along the way from several watches.

Does a limited edition count in what you offer?

At Omega more than at most other brands. The anniversary versions and the Olympic series have a market of their own.

If there is a number on the caseback, do mention it with your request, along with the box and any extras that belong to such a series.

How soon do I get an offer on my Omega?

Within 24 hours of your request, every day of the week. Weekends included.

The offer commits you to nothing. You decide only once you have seen it.

By model

Which Omega model do you want to sell?

We buy every Omega, from a Speedmaster Professional to a vintage Genève. For each model we look at the calibre, the version, the condition and what comes with it. If you still have the warranty document, keep it to hand: that is where the reference is.

Sell your Omega Speedmaster Professional

The Moonwatch is the model we receive most, and on it the calibre and the crystal decide the most. We have made a separate page for it with all the references and the four calibres side by side: selling an Omega Speedmaster.

Sell your Omega Seamaster

The Seamaster covers more than one watch: the Diver 300M, the Planet Ocean, the Aqua Terra and the Seamaster 300 run side by side. A separate page sets out for each line how to recognise it and what decides the value: selling an Omega Seamaster.

Sell your Omega Planet Ocean

The Planet Ocean is the heaviest diver in the range, to six hundred metres and in several case sizes. The Seamaster page sets out what decides the value on this line.

Sell your Omega Aqua Terra

The Aqua Terra has a fixed bezel and a dial with stripes like a ship's deck, and is water resistant to a hundred and fifty metres. Here the case size and the movement make the difference: see the Seamaster page.

Sell your Omega Constellation

You recognise the Constellation by the four claws on the case. The model runs from slim ladies' sizes to full men's cases and from steel to solid gold. To sell an Omega Constellation we look at the material, the case size and whether the bracelet is the original.

Sell your Omega De Ville

The De Ville is the classic line of the house and the place where Omega introduced the co-axial escapement. You can sell a De Ville Trésor or Prestige to us, as well as the older hand-wound versions from the sixties and seventies.

Sell your Omega Railmaster

The Railmaster arrived in 1957 as an anti-magnetic watch for people working around machinery, and has since appeared as a re-edition. We buy both the original and the modern examples and assess them separately. The Seamaster 300 from the same year has a page of its own.

Sell your vintage Omega

We buy outside the well-known lines too. An Omega Genève, a Dynamic, a Chronostop or a Flightmaster is welcome here, with or without box and papers. If you do not know the model, send a photo of the dial and of the caseback, because at Omega that is where what we need is written.
