What sets the value of your Audemars Piguet?
A Royal Oak is a case with a finish, and that finish is the watch. Brushed surfaces beside taut polished edges, a bracelet flowing out of the case and a dial with a pattern of its own. These are the six points this brand turns on.
-
The finish of case and bracelet
On a Royal Oak, brushed and polished surfaces run right alongside one another with a crisp separation between them. A single overall polish takes that separation away, and that is irreversible. Nowhere in our range does this point weigh so heavily.
Impact on the value: Large
-
Material and case size
Steel, titanium, yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, platinum or ceramic, in sizes running roughly from 34 to 44 millimetres. The code after the reference gives the material: ST for steel and OR for gold. Size and material together decide which buyer is looking.
Impact on the value: Large
-
The dial pattern
The tapisserie relief on the dial comes in different scales: fine, medium and coarse. Which one your watch has belongs to the reference and to the year. Colour and pattern together decide how sought after a version is.
Impact on the value: Average
-
The integrated bracelet
The bracelet flows out of the case and is not a loose part you simply replace. Links that were once removed belong with it, so look them out. We check for play between the links and wear at the clasp.
Impact on the value: Average
-
Papers and service history
The warranty document, the purchase receipt and the service receipts make it traceable when the watch was sold and what has been done to it since. On request the brand also supplies an extract from its own archive.
Impact on the value: Average
-
The eight screws on the bezel
On an original example the hexagonal screws on the octagonal bezel all sit in the same alignment. Damaged heads or screws pointing every which way indicate work by somebody not trained for it.
Impact on the value: Average
We publish no guide prices. At Audemars Piguet the same model varies widely by case size, by material and by the state of the finishing.

The reference is on the warranty document and on the caseback. The five-digit base number names the model; the letters after it give the material: ST for steel, OR for gold, TI for titanium and PT for platinum. If you do not know it, send a photo of the caseback.

How to sell your Audemars Piguet to Reuven Watches
Three steps, and until the last one you are committed to nothing. At this brand the first thing we ask for is a photo of the case at an angle to the light, because that is where we see the finishing.
Send your details and photos
Photograph the dial straight from above, the caseback with the reference and the case at an angle to the light. That last photo shows whether the brushed and polished surfaces are still separated.
We assess the case, the bracelet and the dial
Beni Reuben looks at the finishing of the case and the links, at the pattern on the dial and at the alignment of the screws on the bezel. Within 24 hours you will hear what we offer, weekends included.
Come by or send it insured
If the offer suits you, you come by in Utrecht or send your AP insured. We arrange that shipping and pay for it. If you turn the offer down, you keep your watch.
What helps when valuing an Audemars Piguet?
At this brand the information sits in the case and in the bracelet. Two good photos of the finishing take us further than ten of the dial.
-
A photo of the case against the light
Status: Helpful
At an angle, so the separation between brushed and polished surfaces becomes visible. This is the most important photo.
-
Photo of the dial
Status: Helpful
Straight from above and in daylight, so the relief of the pattern and the colour come out well.
-
The full reference
Status: Helpful
Five digits plus the letters naming the material. A 15400ST and a 15400OR are two different watches.
-
Spare links
Status: Optional
On an integrated bracelet these cannot be ordered separately as on an ordinary one. So look them out.
-
The alignment of the screws
Status: Optional
The eight hexagonal screws on the bezel should sit neatly aligned. A photo from above shows that.
-
Papers and service receipts
Status: Optional
The warranty document, the purchase receipt and service receipts make it traceable when the watch was sold and what has been done to it.
There is no fixed list: send what you can manage. We go through the rest once we are in touch. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.
Offer your AP
On a Royal Oak a crisp line runs between the brushed and the polished surface. If that line has gone, material has been taken away.
What do we look at first on an Audemars Piguet?
Four things that decide most about what a watch fetches at this brand, and that you can check yourself before offering it.
The line between brushed and polished
On the case and on every link, matt and mirror-polished surfaces run alongside one another with a hair-sharp separation. On a watch buffed by a workshop that does not specialise, that line blurs and the edges go round. We hold the watch at an angle under a lamp and look along the bracelet.
The relief of the dial
The tapisserie pattern comes in different scales, and the size belongs to the reference and the year. We look at how crisp the squares are and whether the colour is even. On older examples the lacquer can age, and sometimes that is exactly what is wanted.
The screws and the gasket
The eight hexagonal screws should sit aligned and their heads should be undamaged. Deformed heads point to tools not meant for the job. We also look at the gasket around the bezel, because that is sometimes forgotten at a service.
Play in the bracelet
The integrated bracelet carries the whole weight of the case and stretches at the pins. We hold the watch up by the clasp and see how far the links sag apart. That says more about use than the state of the dial does.
If you are unsure about any of these points, simply show us. We ask for whatever we need and you do not have to work anything out in advance.
Have your AP assessedSell your AP to us or through an intermediary?
At this level of value many parties offer to sell your watch on your behalf. That can work, but then your watch sits with somebody else for months and you do not know beforehand what it will fetch.
| Reuven Watches | Sale on consignment | Selling online yourself | |
|---|---|---|---|
| When you have your money | Shortly after you agree | Only once a buyer has been found | Only once there is a buyer |
| Where your watch is kept meanwhile | With you, until you agree | With the intermediary | With you |
| What it costs | Nothing; the shipping is on us too | A share of the proceeds | Listing fees and your time |
| Certainty about the amount | Known in advance | Often only a guide price in advance | Unknown until the offer arrives |
| Questions about the finishing | We assess it ourselves and say what we see | The intermediary decides | You answer them yourself |
| Discretion | Everything stays between us | Your watch is publicly on sale | Your listing is public |
We are not saying an intermediary is a bad idea. We are saying that you then wait for your money and that meanwhile your watch is not with you.

Questions about selling an Audemars Piguet
My Royal Oak has been polished. Will you still buy it?
Yes, we simply buy it. We do say what we see.
At this brand matt and mirror-polished surfaces run right alongside one another, and an overall polish takes that separation away. That is irreversible, so it counts in the offer.
What do the letters after the reference mean?
They name the material. ST stands for steel, OR for gold, TI for titanium and PT for platinum.
So pass on the whole code and not just the five digits, because a 15400ST and a 15400OR are two very different watches.
I am missing a few links from the bracelet. Is that a problem?
It counts, because on an integrated bracelet links cannot simply be ordered separately as on an ordinary one.
See whether they are still in the box or in a drawer. If you have them, send them along, even loose.
Do you also buy a Royal Oak Offshore?
Yes, including the Offshore in all its generations and materials, and the versions with a rubber strap and with ceramic parts.
Do give the reference and the case size, because the Offshore has appeared in many variants.
I no longer have the box and papers. Can I still sell it?
Yes. We buy every brand, with or without box and papers, and there is no minimum value.
Papers do make the year and the version traceable. On request the brand also supplies an extract from its own archive.
Does the sale stay between us?
Yes. What you send us stays with us and your details go no further.
Your watch does not appear in a public advert or catalogue while you have not yet agreed.
How soon do I get an offer on my Audemars Piguet?
Within 24 hours of your request, every day of the week. Weekends included.
The offer carries no obligation. You decide only once you have seen it.

Answers to the questions we get most.
Which Audemars Piguet model do you want to sell?
We buy every Audemars Piguet, from a Royal Oak from the seventies to a Code 11.59. For each model we look at the reference, the material, the finishing and what comes with it. At this brand a photo of the case at an angle to the light says more than ten of the dial.
Sell your Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
The Royal Oak is the model the brand runs on. If you want to sell an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the case size and the material decide the most: a 14790 of 36 millimetres, a 15300 of 39 and a 15400 or 15500 of 41 are watches with their own audiences. The letters after the reference say whether it is steel or gold.
Sell your Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin
The Jumbo is the thin version in the original size and stands closest to the 1972 design. To sell a Royal Oak Jumbo we look at the finishing especially closely, because on a thin case polishing shows even sooner than on the thicker versions.
Sell your Royal Oak Chronograph
The chronograph on the integrated bracelet has appeared in several generations and case sizes, with the counters and the date window in varying positions. To sell a Royal Oak Chronograph we ask for the reference and whether the pushers work cleanly.
Sell your Royal Oak Offshore
The Offshore arrived in 1993 as the heavier, larger version and has since had dozens of versions, from steel to ceramic and rubber. If you want to sell a Royal Oak Offshore, do give the reference, the case size and which strap is fitted.
Sell your Audemars Piguet Code 11.59
The Code 11.59 is the round line from 2019, with an octagonal middle case under a round bezel and a strongly domed crystal. We buy both the simple versions and the chronographs and assess them reference by reference.
Sell your Audemars Piguet Millenary
The Millenary has an oval case and shows part of the movement from the front. The model appeals to a different audience from the Royal Oak and so has a quieter market of its own. We buy the ladies' versions with stone setting too.
Sell your Jules Audemars or classic model
Alongside the sports lines the house makes classic round watches, often in gold and with complications such as a calendar or a chronograph. To sell a Jules Audemars we look at the movement, the material and the state of the slim case flank.
Sell your vintage Audemars Piguet
Older watches are welcome here too, with or without papers. We assess the first generations of Royal Oak and the slim gold models from the seventies and eighties separately. If you do not know the reference, send a photo of the caseback and of the dial.
